About this hotel
Work on the Orient began in 1930 under the Anton Thabet engineering firm, and it opened in 1934 as the Khawam Hotel, a name still cut into the stone slab at the entrance. The building later held a cinema, first the Apamea and then the Ugarit. It is built in a European style with oriental detail, a ground floor and three storeys holding 68 rooms, among them the Fayrouz room, which keeps its name. The hotel is three-star, on Al-Nasr Street at Hijaz Square in Al-Marjah, Damascus.
